Confessions of a Beauty Junkie

Master Collage

Hi, my name is Amanda and I am a true beauty junkie.

It started at twelve or thirteen.  I think I may have been the only girl in my set of friends who would be able to spend hours at the store reading descriptions on moisturizers, trying to figure out which would be best for my skin.  I was aware even then that I needed to be wearing sunscreen on a daily basis.  I would wander through the makeup aisles, so excited to get my hands on anything and everything they had to offer.  The first bit of makeup I was allowed to purchase was a pressed powder from CoverGirl and clear Maybelline mascara.  From then on I was hooked!

The first time I walked into a Sephora I swear the clouds parted, the sun beamed down and angels sang.  I couldn’t believe they had made a place where row after row of cosmetics from all different brands waited for me – with TESTERS!  It was then that I became a swatch queen; my arms and hands lined with various shades of lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, foundation.  I wanted to try everything, smell everything… buy everything.  Is anyone else with me on that?

When I turned thirty I decided that I should be doing what I love, rather than just working to pay the bills.  I went to school and became a licensed esthetician, which is someone who specializes in skin care and makeup.  I learned so much, and couldn’t wait to apply it.

My fiance, who gets dragged into Sephora and Ulta with me probably once a week at least, finally said that I need to start blogging, making videos – something, anything to do with makeup.  I think it was his way of ensuring I had another outlet besides him for talking about all the products I wanted to try, had tried, things I liked, items I didn’t.  Especially from the perspective of someone who knows about ingredients; what might cause acne or make it worse, what to look for in anti-aging products, what to avoid, how to best care for your skin in every aspect, etc.  There is a lot of misinformation out there, and I would get frustrated watching YouTube videos or reading blogs where they would tell people the exact wrong thing to do.

So I finally said OK, enough is enough, I will start with a blog and see how it goes.  And here I am!

I hope you enjoy my site!  I would love to hear from you, get your opinions, answer your questions, and basically just wallow in a pool of fellow beauty junkies.  :)
